Deer stalking is a British term for the stealthy pursuit of deer on foot with the intention of hunting for meat, for leisure/trophy, or to control deer populations.
Deer stalkers typically use a high-powered rifle fitted with a telescopic sight and stalk deer at night or during the day.
In addition to being an effective method of deer control, deer stalking can also be an enjoyable way to spend time outdoors. For those interested in deer hunting, deer stalking can provide an opportunity to pursue these magnificent animals in a challenging and rewarding way.
Stalkers can choose from a variety of locations through our Shooting Syndicate, from hunting red deer in the Scottish highlands or shooting from a high seat in the pristine Devonshire countryside. With access granted to over 210,000 acres of land in the UK, you can be roe deer stalking one weekend, and hunting red deer the next at multiple locations.

How To Get Into Deer Stalking
To become a deer hunter is not as daunting as you might think, simply call us up, and we can book you or a party of people for an introductory day of shooting and deer stalking tuition or even a guided day of deer stalking. If you are looking for syndicate membership, you can join our Deer Stalking Syndicate and gain access to land all over the UK and benefit from our subsidised deer stalking training courses.
Shooting.sh accepts complete novices and has no waiting list. Once you join the syndicate, we will help you apply and obtain your UK Firearms Certificate, complete nationally recognised deer stalking qualifications and learn to become a safe and successful deer hunter under the supervision of our expert guides and trainers.
Syndicate membership is open to everyone, from newcomers to experienced stalkers. We have hunting grounds available all over the country with access to all six species of deer, so a safe place to hunt deer will never be too far away.
Where Can I Go Deer Hunting?
We have many deer stalking locations in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. We also arrange trips to places such as Hungary if you would like to experience Deer stalking in another European country.
Deer stalking must be performed on private land with the permission of landowners, not on public land. Our syndicate has access to over 200,000 acres of land, which you can access as part of our Deer stalking membership. This makes finding areas to stalk all over the UK convenient for both beginners and experienced stalkers.
Deer Stalking England
Deer hunting has a long and storied history in England. In the past, hunting was a popular pastime for the aristocracy, and it was common for kings and queens to engage in the sport.
But times have changed, and Deer stalking is now available to everyone. Whether you are an experienced hunter or a newcomer to the sport, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beauty and excitement of deer hunting in our amazing countryside
We have many locations all over the Uk with a variety of Deer. One spot alone in Wiltshire has 40’000 acres of land with a variety of Red, Roe, Sika and Muntjac Deer. When you join our Syndicate, you will be free to travel to over 30 different stalking areas in England alone.
You could be camping in a forest or shooting from high seats in open farmland. We have access to many different terrains and encourage our members to travel to different locations and shoot deer in under different conditions. This increases your knowledge and experience in the field and helps improve your skills as a deer stalker.
You will not have to travel the length of the country to find Doe, Muntjack or Sika, our locations make for exciting weekends away with new challenges and terrain close by.
Deer Stalking Scotland
One of the benefits of deer hunting in Scotland is the stunning natural beauty of the country’s wilderness areas. Scotland is known for its rugged, picturesque landscapes, and hunting here can be a truly unforgettable experience.
Scotland is home to some beautiful Deer, and every Deer-stalking enthusiast really has to try a trip up north.
We have many locations over Scotland, such as Dumfries & Galloway and Peebleshire. But for a truly unique experience, native Red Deer stalking on 22’000 acres of land in the Isle of Skye can be a memory you save for a lifetime.
You can travel alone or as part of a team. Some of our members hold competitions over weekends and at the end compare stalk results. This acts as a mini competitive holiday for our members, and Scotland is the perfect place to catch a giant red deer.

Our deer stalking membership will also help you collect your DSC1 and DSC2 deer stalking licenses in addition to butchery and firearms training. Our trainer can witness your gralloching and stalking skills on the path to reaching your DSC2 license if you are looking to stalk deer professionally, taking venison or profit from culling deer in the field.
As a bonus, when you join our deer stalking syndicate, you get free access to the rough shooting and driven shooting pegs if you feel like trying your hand at some game or pigeon shooting.
Do I Need My Own Equipment?
You can bring your own equipment, or let us provide rifles and basic equipment if you are a novice.
Some people prefer to let us provide the equipment and ammunition if you only stalk deer on occasion; if you stalk deer regularly, you may have your own rifles set up and configured to your own taste.
It is important to be well prepared for deer stalking, some popular items people like to bring themselves include:
- Binoculars
- Camouflage Clothing
- Lens Wipes
- Torches
- Knife Sets
- Sniper Ghillie Suits
- Bubbles (For Checking Wind Direction)
You should ensure you have made all the necessary preparation for your deer stalk. This should include ensuring you have all the basic items in your backpack and have familiarised yourself with any land regulations for the stalk location.
Is Rifle Training Provided?
If you are a novice deer stalker, we can provide a shooting lesson and training prior to the stalk. This can happen on the morning of your trip or in advance.
Here you will learn all about the safety precautions you need to take when handling a rifle, how to fire the rifle, what calibre bullets to use, how to reload the rife and safety elements that must be adhered to at all times.
We take safety extremely seriously and as a beginner on your 1st trip, you will be accompanied by an experienced deer stalker. Here you will learn all about deer stalking and tap into our many years of experience both handling rifles and stalking deer.
Become A Deer Stalker in the UK
Our deer hunting syndicate can help you stalk deer for fun or train to become a professional deer stalker. You will 1st need to acquire your firearms certificate (FAC) and prove you have grounds to hunt deer, which are available through our syndicate.
To obtain an FAC, you’ll need to:
- Prove that you have a legitimate reason for owning firearms, such as deer management.
- Demonstrate a secure storage system for your firearms.
- Pass background checks, including a criminal record check.
- Obtain two references from individuals who have known you for at least two years.
We can help you through every step, from acquiring your FAC and conducting your DSC1 and DSC2 courses through our syndicate. These courses will teach you advanced techniques out in the field on how to ethically perform deer management, including carcass butchery and disposal.
How Long Does a Deer Hunt Last?
Typically, a hunt will last a full morning, a full afternoon, or all day. It is up to you and your party how long a deer hunt will last, although we will not hunt throughout the night unless a licence has been acquired.
Lots of our customers decide to stay for a few days or over the weekend. This will give you the most time out in our beautiful natural landscapes. Hunting in the daylight hours and retiring to a hotel or farm ground lodgings in the evening is a good way to make the most of your time and ensure you are also getting some rest.
Deer Hunting Tips
A novice may be sitting on a hill for five hours and wondering where the Deer are, but many people do not realise that their actions have consequences. Simply slamming your car door shoot or talking on a mobile phone too loudly can alert deer to your presence.
Through experience, you will learn to alter your approach and find yourself in range of deer on an increasing basis.
We use natural features to mask our approach to deer. When stag stalking, the slightest sound can alert them to your presence. For example, a bubbling stream can hide the sound of your footsteps in woodland. By following these tips, you can deer stalk successfully and enjoy your deer hunting experience.
